User generated content. Media content produced by members of the general public/amateurs using accessible and affordable media technology. Digital media technologies are used for blogging, podcasting, video, mobile phone photography, wikis, etc.

Citizen Journalism (add to glossary if not in)


Also known as "public", "participatory","guerrilla" or "street" journalism.
Based upon public citizens playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing, and disseminating news and information.

An alternative and activist form of newsgathering functioning outside mainstream media institutions, often as a response to shortcomings in the professional journalistic field.

Due to New media technology, such as social networking and smart phones, citizens can sometimes report breaking news more quickly than traditional media reporters.
